Students of The Studio as well as ballet students across the community who are interested in the thrill of performance and in honing their performance skills are encouraged to audition for one of the Santa Cruz Ballet Theatre performing companies.

Senior Company
Open auditions are held each August. These dancers are between 13 and 18 years of age and demonstrate the talent and drive to achieve a career in dance. Senior Company dancers perform in the annual production of the Nutcracker, presented with afull symphony orchestra at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium in downtown Santa Cruz, as well as a mixed-repertory program In Concert (featuring an eclectic repertoire and/or classics such as Swan Lake Act II, and, the full length Giselle and Paquita).
The Senior Company also participates in the annual Regional Dance America/Pacific Festival each spring. Rehearsals are held Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays..
Junior Company
Intermediate students who are interested in pursing a career in dance, or just want the thrill and rewards of performing are encouraged to audition for the Junior Company. Dancers must have achieved a high intermediate level of study, including pointe work for girls. Dancers are 11-15 years of age. Junior Company participates in The Nutcracker as well as performances with the Santa Cruz County Symphony, and have the opportunity to attend the Regional Dance America Festival each spring.
Petite Company
Dancers age seven and up are invited to audition for the Petite Company. Auditions are held each January. Performances include In Concert, Santa Cruz County Symphony Family Concert, and Cabrillo Festival Summer Concert on an outdoor stage. New works are choreographed for this young group by award-winning choreographer, Robert Kelley.
Petite Company dancers who are at least ten years of age have the opportunity to participate in the annual Regional Dance America/Pacific Festival.
Senior and Junior Company Auditions | Held on Saturday, August 8
9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Girls please bring pointe shoes. $30 audition fee per dancer.
Petite Company Auditions: January 2016 | TBD
Dancers must be at least seven years of age to audition.

Dancers age 4 to 6 years* | 5:00 – 5:30 p.m.
Dancers age 7 to 8 years | 4:30 – 5:00 p.m.
Dancers age 9 to 11 years | 3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
Dancers age 12 and up | 2 – 3:30 p.m.
Students from all over the county participate each year. Performances are held at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium in downtown Santa Cruz, California.. Dancers perform to a live symphony orchestra conducted by Maestro Pamela Martin.
NUTCRACKER ELIGIBILITY and AUDITION DETAILS
- *Students of The Studio are eligible for auditions from ages 4 – 6, and they must be enrolled in our program to qualify.
- Auditions for age groups seven and up are OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. No experience necessary!
- Audition Registration begins 30 minutes prior to each audition start time. Late entrance will not be admitted.
There is a $25 audition fee per dancer. - Auditions are held at The Studio, School of Classical Ballet, 2800 S Rodeo Gulch Road, Suite C, Soquel, CA.
